Q.

#AskTheExpert my baby developed swelling in whole left leg after receiving the first dose of pentavalent vaccine which slowly began to subside but there is still little swelling in left thigh even after 7 weeks of the injection. I asked doctors whether to administer second dose or not to which they said I should so second injection was given but in right thigh, there is minimal swelling this time. The swelling of right thigh has almost subsided but not of left thigh, what to do next?

A. Post vaccination swelling may be a common thing specially after DPT vaccine which may be painful for two or three days and the swelling may remain even up to month so if it is not causing any pain or other symptoms nothing to worry. Swelling can be reduced by giving ice fomentation locally and paracetamol can be given for fever or pain. Thhrombophobe ointment can be applied in acute pain and swelling .
