If your 14-month-old has swelling in the lower eyelids due to an eye infection, it's important to keep the area clean and avoid touching or rubbing the eyes. Gently wipe any discharge with a clean, damp cotton cloth. Apply a warm compress (soft cloth soaked in warm water) to the eyelid 2–3 times a day to reduce swelling. If prescribed by the doctor, use antibiotic eye drops or ointment as directed. Avoid using any over-the-counter drops without medical advice. If the swelling increases, there is pus, or the child seems uncomfortable, consult your pediatrician or an eye specialist promptly.
