A. It sounds like your 8-month-old is having trouble with sleep, which can be quite challenging for both you and your baby. At this age, babies typically need around 14-15 hours of sleep in a 24-hour period, but this is usually broken into shorter naps during the day and longer stretches of sleep at night. If your baby is only sleeping for short periods, it could be due to various factors, such as teething, hunger, or discomfort. Sometimes, babies also go through phases of sleep regression, where they wake up more frequently during the night. To help improve your baby's sleep, try to establish a consistent bedtime routine, such as a warm bath, reading a short book, or gentle rocking, which can signal to your baby that it's time to sleep. Make sure the sleep environment is comfortable, dark, and quiet. If teething is the issue, soothing remedies like a teething ring or gentle massage may help. Additionally, try to make sure your baby isn’t overstimulated during the day and is getting enough active playtime to tire them out. If the issue persists, it might be a good idea to consult with your pediatrician to rule out any underlying medical issues or get further sleep advice tailored to your baby’s needs.
