Q.

#AskTheExpert #Mamypoko my baby boy is 11months old. he has light fever. Dr prescribed p120 6ml every 6hrs. after the first intake, he didn't get fever in the next 6hrs. So i didn't give him the syrup. but now, he again has fever. can I start now and continue to use the syrup every 6hrs though he doesn't have fever later?

A. Fever is commonly seen in babies and mostly it's viral infection which is very common in children. But if fever is high grade and persisting or assosiated with specific symptoms than other causes should also be ruled out . Antipyretic like paracetamohdl or ibuprofen or mefenamic acid are usually given to reduce fever . Cold sponging with lukewarm water is also helpful . Doctor consultation should be done if symptoms like excessive irritability dullness loss of appetite less urine output is there .

A. Fevers due to viruses can last for as little as two to three days and sometime as long as two weeks. A fever caused by a bacterial infection may continue until the child is treated with an antibiotic.
