POOJA KOTHARIMom of a 8 yr 10 m old boy1 Year agoA. If your 1-year-11-month-old child has a runny nose with a blocked or stuffy nose, it could be due to a common cold, allergies, or another mild respiratory infection. Here are some steps to help alleviate the symptoms: 1. Saline Nasal Drops/Spray: Use saline drops or a saline nasal spray to help loosen the mucus and make it easier for your baby to breathe. These are safe for young children and can be used a few times a day. 2. Steam Inhalation: Use steam to help clear the nasal passages. You can run a hot shower and let the bathroom fill with steam, or use a humidifier in your baby’s room, especially during sleep, to keep the air moist. 3. Elevate the Head: Slightly elevate your baby's head while sleeping by putting a pillow or rolled towel under the mattress. This can help relieve nasal congestion. 4. Hydration: Make sure your baby stays hydrated by offering plenty of fluids (breast milk, formula, or water) to help thin the mucus. 5. Gentle Nose Wiping: Use soft tissues to gently wipe your baby's nose, and consider applying a little petroleum jelly around the nostrils to prevent irritation from constant wiping. 6. Avoid Irritants: Keep your baby away from smoke, strong odors, or any allergens that could worsen nasal congestion. 7. Monitor for Other Symptoms: If your child has a fever, cough, or the symptoms last more than a few days, or if you notice signs of difficulty breathing or ear pain, it is important to consult a pediatrician. A blocked nose in toddlers is common, but if the symptoms persist or worsen, it’s best to check with your doctor for a more thorough evaluation and treatment.
