#AskTheExpert hi sir my son is 4.8years old. He is having cough for past 2 weeks. given detromethorphan syrup cough is not subsiding completely.what I have to do??

Dr Sameer awadhiyaGuardian of 2 children2 years agoA. Cough and Cold along with the symptom like Fever loss of appetite irritability could be a feature of viral infection or seasonal flu where most of the time supportive treatment is given.
along with that cough expectorant and defucongestant with antiallergic medicine given.
steam inhalation can be given frequently to relieve the symptoms.

Dr Vandan H KumarFather of a 7 yr 4 m old boy2 years agoA. it is in diagnosis of allergic cough cold .
here the child will have regular cough and cold which is usually not associated with fever .
it increases and decreases but does not get cured completely.
dr will give anti allergic medicine usually motelukast / levocetirizine. if its still not improving the next line of treatment will be inhaler therapy with mdi / nebulizer.
allergy can be environmental (temperature variation -hot to cold weather/ cold water intake / dust / smoke / pollens) , food , chocolate / packet preservatives food and sweet fxood also.
body cannot sustain such allergic changes leading to cough cold usually at evening /night and morning.
