#AskTheExpert hi, my baby is 6 months n 20 days old n she has a bit of chest congestion n blocked nose, so in this condition shud v bath our chile or not?

Dr Sameer awadhiyaGuardian of 2 children2 years agoA. Cold most of the time is a viral illness where there could be running nose sneezing along with cough and it needs supportive care along with proper hydration . steam inhalation will also be useful in this .
cough needs to be treated with anti allergic andf expectorant bronchodilators or antitussives medicine which should be used once a proper evaluation by the doctor is done and accordcxing to the type of cough its prescribed.
if any fever is there paracetamol can be given to reduce the temperature and the dose can be repeated again after 6 hours if required .

Use saline nasal drops
Give nasal saline drops every few hourly to the child in the nasal cavity. try to prevent temperature variations around the child you can go for indirect steam inhalation which will again help in decreasing both cough and cold continue the regular diet of the child if there is s no improvement in few days then meet your doctor for fever and pain give paracetamol. anti-cold medicines at this age have got side effects so can be given only after medical consultation.
