A. Your 7-month-old baby’s weight gain is slow, increasing from 6.7 kg to 6.9 kg in one month, which can be concerning. Since his birth weight was 2.75 kg, his weight gain should ideally be better. Here’s what you can do to improve his weight: 1. Focus on Nutrient-Dense Foods Now that your baby has started solids, include high-calorie, nutritious foods: Healthy Fats: Add ghee, butter, or coconut oil to his meals. Protein-Rich Foods: Dal, khichdi, paneer, egg yolk (if not allergic), and mashed chicken (after consulting a pediatrician). Carbohydrates: Well-cooked oats, suji kheer, mashed banana, sweet potato, and ragi porridge. Iron & Calcium Sources: Mashed spinach, dry fruit powder (almond, walnut, cashew in tiny amounts). 2. Increase Meal Frequency Feed small but frequent meals (3 solid meals + 2 snacks + breast/formula milk). Make sure he is eating at least 2-3 tablespoons per meal and increase gradually. 3. Ensure Proper Digestion Some babies do not gain weight due to digestion issues. If your baby has constipation, frequent loose motions, or bloating, check if any food is causing discomfort. Give homemade curd to support gut health. 4. Continue Breastfeeding or Formula Milk Milk should still be a major source of nutrition. Offer breast milk or formula at least 4-5 times a day along with solids. 5. Check for Deficiencies If your baby is active but not gaining weight, consult a doctor to check for iron or zinc deficiency, which can affect appetite. If weight gain does not improve in the next 4-6 weeks, discuss it with your pediatrician to rule out any medical concerns. Keep a stress-free feeding routine and track his progress regularly.
