The kid might not be liking plain milk. Other sources of calcium are cheese and yoghurt. Give oranges, soy milk, soy yoghurt and tofu. Give almonds and green vegetables like okra, amaranth, spinach, broccoli, french beans, cluster beans, green peas etc. Give white kidney beans, chickpeas, navy beans and soybeans. Give lentils. Give cereals like ragi, bajra, brown rice etc. Use sesame seeds in your foods.
Try to give the child a bowl and a spoon. Let him play with the food and make a mess. This is how he will learn to eat independently with a spoon while touching, playing and finally tasting the food. Offer small portions of food and only when the kid asks for more, give more. Praise the kid even if he finishes a small part of his meal. Do not force the child to eat. Kids at this age crave for a sense of independence. Give him limited healthy options such as - do you want a cheese sandwich or a peanut butter sandwich? This way the kid feels that he chose the food to eat and he might eat it. Avoid distractions during mealtime such as TV, laptop, mobile phones, tablets etc. Make family meals a pleasant experience. The entire family should eat together so that the kid learns good eating habits from parents, siblings etc.
