Improve your iron absorption rates : Lemon juice, strawberries, green leafy vegetables, fish, liver, sweet potatoes, collard greens, mango, squash, carrots help in iron absorption. Eat fruits like apples, pomegranates, oranges and lemons. Eat kidney beans, mung beans, chickpeas along with brown rice.

Give foods rich in iron : raisins, dates, green beans, eggs, spinach, almonds, chia seeds, cashews, chicken breasts, shellfish, kale, fruits and vegetables. Eat foods to increase your folate intake : beetroot, avocado, peanuts, kidney beans and lettuce. Ask your doctor whether your kid can be given any kind of iron supplements.
