A. At 6 months, you can start introducing solid foods to your baby, in addition to breast milk or formula. The key is to introduce single-ingredient purees and gradually move to more complex textures as your baby gets used to eating solids. Here are some good first foods to introduce: 1. Pureed Vegetables: Carrot puree Sweet potato puree Pea puree Pumpkin puree Spinach puree (ensure it's well-cooked and blended to avoid any stringy bits) 2. Pureed Fruits: Apple puree Pear puree Banana (mashed) Avocado (mashed) 3. Cereal: Rice cereal or oatmeal, made with breast milk or formula (you can start with thin consistency and gradually thicken as they get used to it). 4. Lentils/Dal: You can try mashed yellow moong dal or lentil puree (well-cooked and blended). 5. Protein (Soft Textures): Well-cooked chicken or fish (pureed or finely mashed) Tofu (pureed or mashed) 6. Dairy: You can introduce plain yogurt once the baby is accustomed to solids (ensure it's full-fat and plain, not flavored or with added sugar). Foods to Avoid: Honey (avoid until after 1 year due to the risk of botulism) Whole nuts or foods that can cause choking Salt, sugar, and added seasonings Tips for Introducing Solids: Start with a small quantity (1-2 teaspoons) and gradually increase the amount. Offer new foods one at a time and wait for 3-5 days before introducing another new food, to check for any allergic reactions. Continue breastfeeding or formula feeding as the main source of nutrition until your baby is around 1 year old. Each baby is different, so it's important to watch for signs of readiness (sitting up with support, showing interest in food) and consult with your pediatrician for personalized advice.
