Q.

#AskTheExpert Hello doctor, My son is 2 years 3 months old, weighs 13 kgs. He is suffering from cough and cold since Saturday 9 Oct. I gave him sinarest ( 5 ml thrice a day) and mucolite ( 3 ml thrice a day), nasoclear and steam 3 times a day but the cough and running nose isn't subsiding. Can you pls recommend a decongestant or suitable medication for him.

A. Cough and Cold should be ideally treated only after a proper clinical examination by a doctor.it may be any infective or allergic.it is not so related to food items like banana etc.but seasonal changes may aggravate. if with fever too ,calpol can be given three times a day.give steam and nasoclear drops can also be used multiple times. Cough Syrup or nebulization should be given according to the type of cough .self medication is not advisasuu5ble. if the cough is productive you can give kufril-ls syrup for now .avoid refrigerated items and give only simple home-made preparations as required.child will gradually begin to eat as symptoms resolve.at times coughing may take more time to resolve.
