Q.

#AskTheExpert Hello Doctor, hope you are doing well. My boy is 3 months now. He was preterm baby weighing 1.6kg. Mother is feeding him and the same time we are also giving him prenan. Most of the time she doesn't generate milk so we prefer prenan mostly. I just wanted to know of we can continue with prenan or should we give him something else. Please advise or share your suggestions.

A. You can continue with Nan that's what your doctor too will recommend I guess. Keep monitoring for weight check in the first 3 months, babies put on about 800-900grams each month. From 3-6 months, weight gain reduces to 1/2 kg/month. from 6-9 months, it becomes 1/3, and for 9-12 months, it becomes 1/4 kg. the birth weight doubles in the 4th month and triples when they reach 12 months of age.
