#AskTheExpert Can you please explain how can be ensure that the child gets more hindmilk while breastfeeding

A. Thanks Janani, the problem is our child needs feeding every 1 hour and immediately poops after that. Our paediatric said its watery diarrhoea and happens when baby gets more foremilk and less hindmilk

A. You cannot actually differentiate it much and feed the baby. The foremilk will be watery and hind milk will be thick. As the baby sucks the milk initially the watery milk comes out and slowly the high fat milk will come down. If the baby nurses emptying the breasts then you can be sure he would have taken the hind milk. Otherwise it's pretty hard to do some tactic and get the hind milk. If she us nursing only for few mins, May be u can try to express few amount of milk before u feed her. But it does not guarantee that she will get the hind milk. Don't worry about this very much. Just keep feeding her. As long as she is healthy and active you need not worry. She us growing good.
