POOJA KOTHARIMom of a 8 yr 5 m old boy6 months agoA. A breastfeeding mom can take BP tablets, but the medication should be prescribed by a doctor to ensure it is safe for breastfeeding. Some BP medicines, like labetalol, nifedipine, methyldopa, and enalapril, are generally considered safe for lactating mothers. However, some beta-blockers and diuretics may reduce milk supply, so always consult your doctor before taking any BP medication.
Regarding your BP reading of 146/98, it is higher than normal. A normal BP is below 120/80 mmHg, and anything above 140/90 mmHg is considered hypertension. Since you are breastfeeding, it’s important to monitor your BP regularly and take lifestyle measures like:
✔ Reducing salt and processed foods
✔ Staying hydrated
✔ Engaging in light exercise (as per postpartum recovery)
✔ Managing stress and sleep
If high BP persists, consult your doctor for proper management. Let me know if you need diet tips to help with BP control!
