#AskTheExpert baby is not sucking breast milk

A. There can be many reasons why she is not sucking. May be she is having cold, stuffy nose or an ear infection. Or she I still not comfortable latching or may be ur milk supply is low and she may find it difficult to suck or she may have reflux which can make her resist feeding. Try feeding her when she is asleep. Have more skin to skin sessions so that she can naturally feed on her own. If ur milk supply is low consider using formula with ur docs advice. Check when she is feeling hungry through signs like sucking, opening or closing mouth etc., and feed her. Hope these pointers will help u. In any case don't worry babies are born with sucking reflex so she will soon start feeding in a day or two. You can also get the help of a lactation specialist.
