Milia: Small white cysts that can appear on a baby’s face, often around the nose, chin, or cheeks. They occur when dead skin cells become trapped in small pockets near the surface of the skin. They are harmless and usually disappear on their own within a few weeks.
Baby Acne: Some babies develop acne-like spots (pimples) due to hormonal changes after birth. These can appear as white or blackheads, usually on the face, and typically resolve within a few weeks to months.
Friction or Rash: Sometimes, due to friction from clothing or blankets, or from exposure to heat, babies can develop small bumps or rashes that resemble white or blackheads.
Seborrheic Dermatitis: This is a condition that may cause scaly, red patches on the scalp and sometimes other parts of the body. It can also lead to small white or yellowish bumps.
What to Do: Avoid squeezing or picking at the spots as this can worsen irritation or lead to infection. Keep your baby’s skin clean and dry to avoid any further irritation. Gentle skincare: Use a mild baby soap and soft towels when bathing your baby. Avoid harsh scrubbing. Consult a Pediatrician: If the spots persist, seem to cause discomfort, or are accompanied by other symptoms (like fever), it's best to consult your pediatrician to ensure they are nothing more serious.
In most cases, these conditions are temporary and go away on their own.
