Q.

#AskTheExpert Baby girl is 14 months old and is having high fever for past 3 days. Medication has not helped. Fever comes and goes in every 3-4 hours. She has become too dull and has stopped eating anything. Only on breastfeed for now. I am giving her P-120 every 6 hours now as per advise from her doctor. Please help.

A. keep temperature checking 6 hourly.. Fevers higher than 104° F. should be attended to immediately. Dress your child lightly. Use a sheet instead of a blanket to cover her in bed. increase Breastfeed or give your baby formula often to maintain hydration of body. Give soft easy to digest diet. maintain proper hygein. If persistent for more than 48 hours,OR accompanied by other symptoms like vomiting or loose motions or coughing and breathlessness or dullness and refusal to feed ,consult your paediatrician

A. Most fevers and accompanying cold-like symptoms can last from three to five days. Beyond that, a child should see the doctor to eliminate any risk of complications. Caregivers should use the appropriate method in taking their child's temperature.
