A. Clots behind the placenta often go away on their own. So if you're in your first trimester, and your sonographer noticed a small clot during your dating scan, it may be nothing to worry about. Larger clots, though, can lead to pregnancy complications, such as pre-eclampsia, so you may need more care and monitoring.
