#askthedoctor Should we start giving cow milk to 7 months old? If yes, how much. If no, why? I have also heard that cow milk is not good for infants upto 1 or 2 years.

A. Cow's milk is not suitable for children less than 9 to 12 months of age. Cow's milk, when introduced before the age of 9 months, can cause bleeding in the intestines and increase the risk of anemia. Further, cow's milk is so high in protein and minerals that it increases the workload of the kidneys.
