Q.

#ask the expert My son 4.6 year old had cold last month and then followed with wet cough. doctor said it's viral induced wheeze and prescribed inhaler. It's been more than a month now but still his cough has not stopped.some days looks like cough has reduced but again next day it would have increased. some day he coughs in sleep and vomits his dinner. Is it normal for wet cough to last for more than a month

A. Cold most of the time is a viral illness where there could be running nose sneezing along with cough and it needs supportive care along with proper hydration . steam inhalation will also be useful in this . cough needs to be treated with anti allergic and expectorant bronchodilators or antitussives medicine which should be used once a proper evaluation by the doctor is done and according to the type of cough its prescribefrd. if any fever is there paracetamol can be given to reduce the tegmperature and the dose can be repeated again after 6 hours if required .
