if given without consultation coughing medicine can aggravate the problem.
you can go for home remedies like tulsi ginger (honey is added wheen child is more than 1 year of age) combination which can be diluted with water and given frequently to the child.
also you can give turmericc with milk one or two times everyday.
give warm water to drink as well as nasal saline drops frequently. give warm diet
try to prevent temperature variations around the child that is from hot to cold and cold to hot environment

Do not give infants under 1 year honey; it will not help with symptoms and can cause a sickness called infant botulism. For children 1 year and older: Use honey, 2 to 5 mL, as needed. The honey thins the mucus and loosens the cough. (If you do not have honey, you can use corn syrup)
