A. It's common for babies to develop a small lump at the BCG vaccination site within 2 to 6 weeks after the injection. This lump may burst, ooze, and eventually heal over a few weeks to months, typically leaving a small scar. Recommended Care: Keep the Area Clean and Dry: Gently wash the site with mild soap and water during baths. Avoid Covering: If possible, leave the site uncovered to promote air circulation. If the area is oozing, you can cover it with a dry dressing that allows air circulation. Do Not Apply Ointments or Creams: Avoid using any ointments, oils, or herbs on the site. Avoid Squeezing or Scratching: Do not squeeze or scratch the site to prevent infection or scarring. When to Consult a Doctor: If the lump becomes significantly larger, more painful, or shows signs of infection (such as increased redness, warmth, or pus). If your baby develops a fever or appears unwell. If the site does not heal within a few months or you have concerns about its appearance. In most cases, these reactions are part of the normal healing process after a BCG vaccination. However, if you have any concerns, it's always best to consult your pediatrician for personalized advice. For more detailed information, you can refer to the NHS guidelines on BCG vaccination aftercare.
