When a baby is born the skin pH is 7 unlike adult's healthy skin which has a pH of 5.5. Moreover, the baby’s skin is 20% thinner and very delicate hence needs specialized care. pH 7 is the basic requirement for the baby’s skin because it is very delicate. Giving it anything less than that will not only harm their skin but can also create problems for the future. Also, premature babies need more care as their skin is thinner than the full term baby. So why take risk ?
