This certainly has not changed. It’s still persistent in our society.. expecting a child’s complexion to be fair.
It’s with both boy or girl child.
People forget that when a child is born.. it’s not about colour or gender.
It’s all about being thankful for a healthy child.
Pressure on women to eat drink specific items, to live their 9 months in a way that they deliver a fair baby... it’s all very prominent in our society still..

My pregnancy was smooth.. I had no pressure from either sides of my family for the complexion. They were more concerned about being healthy and staying active.
my baby boy is 4 months old now and he isn’t fair.. but he is healthy active and very cute. I’m thankful for that 😃😄

I have an arranged marriage. I am wheatish and my husband has fair skin. My mother in law also has fair skin. She is not educated, completed only primary schooling, still she never ever talked about the complexion of baby. Neither while pregnancy nor after delivery.
Although she is bit annoyed coz my son got all the features from me 😁 (looks like my miniature).

There are still people who will stress over the fact that the babies colour should be fair whether it’s a girl child or boy but especially in case of a girl child people go an extra mile to get the fair colour.. Ubtans and other creams...
even though there are families who have grown out of the bounds of these social norms it in our society specially in north India it is still a big discussion... But as parents I don’t think a mother or a father even considers anything beyond their child as a whole than obsessing over their colour..

I think complexion is still considered a major part of face value in our society,specially for girls...and what are their tips for getting a fair skinned baby??'Hav more coconut in ur meals,drink coconut water daily'...I mean genetics is also a thing...eating coconut does not means u will get a fair skinned baby..😀.Moreover,what is the point of creating undue pressure on soon to be moms for getting baby features that u want...let them enjoy their pregnancy & later their motherhood..because for moms,their babies are most beautiful,whether fair skinned or not..For me,its very important that the baby remains healthy & happy
always,rest of the things doesnt matter😊

In this era....
People still think abt complexion...
I belong to southern part of India nd i have a dusky complexion, got married to a north India and he has fair complexion... yes it is a lv marriage 😍..
Whn i got pregnant my mother in law was quiet curios abt the complexion abt my first baby...
I was on my 3rd month of pregnancy and i got my first sonography done, My mother in-law asked me”hv they mentioned the colour of baby”..
I got shattered... she continued and said “ i hv stopped my son to marry you coz his baby will have the dusky complexion...
Is there will be any end to this mentality?

My experience on this during pregnancy was not much of a trouble as I chose to stay at my home with my husband. Hence minimum pressure from parents and in-laws. But now with my girl baby in hand (45 days) my parents want her to be fair, round, chubby! They blame me saying she is not getting fat. They never understand the fact that her weight is increasing gradually, she is taller than average, her output is good and she is healthy. So I feel things haven't changed as we expect.
