A. hi, neonatal hypothyroidism is decreased thyroid hormone production in a newborn.. in very rare cases no thyroid hormone is produced... the condition is also called congenital hypothyroidism which may caused by a missing or poorly developed thyroid gland.. medicine the mother took during pregnancy... lack of iodine in the Mother's diet during pregnancy... antibodies made by the Mother's body that block the babies thyroid function... how many babies with thyroid hormone replacement therapy will be needed for their entire life.. with proper treatment these children can lead healthy and happy life.. the normal growth and development with no restrictions as far as activity is concerned... for some babies thyroid hormone deficiency is transient with treatment required for several months to a few years... repeated blood test to measure the TSH and T4 levels will help to determine what sort of treatment is needed for the babies who is suffering from Thyroid.
