Baby should be engaged in all family members activities as you said joint family or
 Baby will play with toys, engaged with mother activities also
Waker & jumpers are not only way to engage the baby.......

buy a good quality walker like from fisher price mee mee or any good brand which has a rectangular shape I hve used it for my daughter it was very much safe. mentioned in other posts do not keep him for long time give thsm breaks in between

a bouncer from Fisher price is a good option to make the baby sit in inclined position. this way baby can see and also rock whenever you can .

one thing is for sure that when people say that do not used vauxhall jumpers for the baby they are just talking about the Google things do not go by that instead I personally used Walker for my baby being in a nuclear family it was hard for me so I used it and there was no harm maximum of 2 hours you can let your babies tane Walker give a break after every 10 minutes so your baby is also having some time without Walker and his head habit of standing without any support
