Q.

She has cold n cough, temperature was 98f till yesterday evening,last night giving started calpol 250(5ml) as temperature is fluctuationing between 98f-101f, calpol 5ml given morning 5am,11am but still it's 99f.. Kindly advice

A. Fever is a reaction of the body to different pyrogens released during any Infection. Usually temp more than 99 F is taken as fever . Mostly in children fever is because of viral infections like flu or RSV where the fever is there for 4-5 days but may persist even upto 2 weeks . Initially antipyretic like paracetamol is given in a dose of 15 mg / kg/ dose. Can be repeated after 4-6 hrs if needed . Lukewarm sponge bath can be given as home remedy to decrease fever. Adequate fluid intake is also beneficial. Urine outvput monitvoring is necessary to avoid dehydration .

A. hi if temperature remains 100f or above , please visit your pediatrician. keep your child well hydrated give decocotion made up with warm water, Tulsi leaves and pinch of salt ,in 2 tbsp quantity every 2 hours. dress your child lightly.
