Q.

Our ASHA worker has given iron syrup for my 1.7-year-old baby girl and advised me to give it in the afternoon. Is it safe to give her the syrup without a doctor’s recommendation? If yes, what would be the correct dosage? Also, does iron syrup affect bowel movements, since my child already has constipation issues?

A. If iron supplement has been suggested then you can give it there is no problem and with some cases the iron syrup can lead to a problem of constipation but in some cases it does not so your child already is constipated it can increase because of the supplement sometimes and sometimes not at all
