A. If your 1 year and 9-month-old is not drinking cow's milk or formula like Aptamil, there are several alternatives and strategies you can consider: ### **1. **Alternative Milk Options** - **Fortified Plant-Based Milks**: Consider plant-based milks like almond, soy, or oat milk that are fortified with calcium and vitamin D. Ensure they are suitable for toddlers. - **Lactose-Free Milk**: If lactose intolerance is a concern, lactose-free cow’s milk might be a good option. - **Goat’s Milk**: Some parents find that goat’s milk is easier for toddlers to digest. Ensure it’s fortified and suitable for their age. ### **2. **Nutritional Supplements** - **Toddler Nutritional Drinks**: Look for toddler-specific nutritional drinks that are designed to provide essential nutrients if milk intake is low. ### **3. **Incorporate Milk in Foods** - **Cooking**: Use milk in cooking or baking to ensure your child gets some of the nutritional benefits. Add it to cereals, smoothies, or recipes. - **Yogurt and Cheese**: Incorporate dairy products like yogurt and cheese into your child's diet to provide calcium and vitamin D. ### **4. **Improve Milk Acceptance** - **Try Different Brands**: Sometimes, toddlers have preferences for certain brands or flavors. Experiment with different brands of cow’s milk or formulas. - **Flavored Milk**: Occasionally, adding a small amount of flavor (like vanilla) can make milk more appealing. Avoid added sugars. ### **5. **Ensure Balanced Nutrition** - **Diverse Diet**: Ensure your child’s diet includes a variety of other calcium-rich foods like leafy greens, beans, and fortified cereals. - **Consult a Pediatrician**: If your child’s milk refusal continues, discuss it with your pediatrician. They can provide guidance and check for any underlying issues. ### **6. **Hydration and Balanced Meals** - **Water**: Make sure your child is drinking enough water to stay hydrated. - **Balanced Meals**: Offer balanced meals that include a variety of nutrients to support overall health. If you’re concerned about your child’s nutrition or growth, a pediatrician or a dietitian can offer personalized recommendations and help you create a balanced dietary plan.
