Q.

My son is 65 days old. I belong to Gujarati family. My parents and In-laws insist on the following: 1. To give Gripe water daily to the kid. My mother has bought woodwords gripe water ( which mentions non-alcoholic). I apply hing around belly when required. At times I give Gastica (drops) as prescribed by Peadiatrician. 2. To start Somva-34, an ayurvedic medicine 3. To give ghasara. i.e. to manually grind wet almond and walnut on clean wood , mix with breast milk and feed the child. Can these be given to my child now? does the child require this? if not now, what is the ideal age to start this. P.S. I am not much keen to give this.

A. Hi.. no need to give. gripe water now.. if you want to give ghasara give after 6 months.. if colic pain is their than do Apply Hing paste around navel... Breast milk is nature’s perfect food for babies.Breast milk contains the perfect mix of fat, protein and carbohydrate for the babies ..  It contains protective substances that give her immunity to diseases. In the early stages of a baby’s life, breast milk meets all of her nutrient needs.  No other foods or fluids – including water – are nit necessary till 6 months.  Exclusive breast feed your baby two hourly and on demand .

A. Don't use gripe water to ur baby It's of no use It may cause infection to baby Always better to avoid. No need to give anything except vitamin D3 drops, if baby is on exclusive breast feed. Continue with exclusive breast feed ur baby till completing 6months of age. It will help.

A. None of the above mentioned is advisable to be given to a 2 months old baby. Dry fruits be it in grinded form should be given post completion of 10 months of age however only finely powdered.

A. Better to avoid all these things for the baby because it is not good for the baby’s health and giving almonds and walnuts kind of thing before completing 8 month is not suggested
