Q.

My son is 1 year and 4 months old. In every month he is getting fever and cold and cough. Peadiatrition gave antibiotic in every month. Is antibiotic good to cure?

A. Avpid giving antibiotics everytime as most of the cold and cough are viral in orogin which don't require antibiotics as it further redyces the immunity of the child. Give viramin C roch fruits and vegetables to build immunity

A. Also Common cold or a fever can be caused by any of the numerous viruses present out there . Every time the baby is exposed to a virus she gets cold or sometimes fever. But u need not worry about this as she develops an immunity to this virus and will be more stronger as she grows old. So it's very common for infants to catch colds or get fever often. It indicates a good development of their immune system. So as the baby grows older the frequency of getting cold or fever he get will reduce. If it is not reduced even after few years then you should let your pediatrician know about it as the kids immune system may be weak and get some immunity boosters prescribed. Always include healthy fruits and vegetables and other pulses in baby's regular diet.

A. Antibiotic need not be started on the very first day of fever. Also antibiotics are not prescribed if it is a viral fever. Generally doctors prescribe an antibiotic when there is very high temperature and the temperature doesn't subside even after couple of days and the fever was due to a stomach infection or severe cough or cold or any other infection.
