Q.

My son doesn’t chew at all. I tried everything. Finger foods, soft chewable food. He just doesn’t chew and even not touching if any new food I place in front of him. Does he ever learn to chew or not? When he will 3-4 years old then he will learn? What should I do?

A. hello mom • Reduce the milk and liquid food.Eat with her and show her how to chew. Babies imitate their parents.Be calm and making eating time interesting. Toddlers catch their parents worries very well and they too become tense.Introduce new flavors. Find out what she likes and dislikes. Try her disliked foods in intervals without making her rebel.Try different colors, shapes and textures in the food. Introduce one at a time without much fuzz.Make her eat by her own. It may be messy, but it boosts her self esteem.Praise her when she chews. Encourage her to chew her food showing the actions, videos, stories etc.Serve food in regular gaps of 3 to 4 hours. Give her 15–20 min to finish eating and then take away the plate.Say no to the screen time while eating. Encourage eating time as family time.
