Q.

My little one is 5 months. Till now he was on bf and formula milk but since 15 days my inlaws have started giving him cow milk. I'm we have our own personal cow and we don't feed the cow any artificial food. It eats only pure food. So it is assumed that the milk is also pure. My MIL adds milk and water in ratio 1:1 and adds little bit of taal mishri to it and boil the milk. Baby drinks the milk very fondly and it's been 10-15 days we have been doing it. How do i know that he is not able to digest the milk???

A. I also faced similar problem, however my doctor recommended not to feed the baby cow milk. Cow milk is basically for the calf. It contains high amounts of calcium and no iron what so ever. Iron is necessary for infants growth upto 6 months. Hence formula milk has these vitamins & minerals added to it to make it suitable for babies. I would recommend not to feed cow milk as it can cause iron deficiency in the baby and make it difficult for the baby to digest milk in the longer run.

A. If the baby is not showing any issues, I feel it is okay. Most of the formula milk contains cow milk as a protein source. I hope it is not the only feed baby.

A. hello co milk or any animal milk should be avoided till the child complete one year as the baby will not be able to digest and instead try to give infant formula milk stage 1 using a BP a free bottle like babyhug in the case you are not able to breastfeed the baby which would be a better option and also safe
