POOJA KOTHARIMom of a 8 yr 5 m old boy1 Year agoA. There are several home remedies you can try to help alleviate cough in a baby, but it's important to consult with a pediatrician, especially for infants under one year old, to ensure proper diagnosis and treatment. Here are some gentle home remedies commonly used in Indian households:
1. **Warm Turmeric Milk**: Warm milk with a pinch of turmeric powder can help soothe a cough and boost immunity. Turmeric has natural antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.
2. **Honey and Ginger**: A mixture of honey and ginger juice can help relieve cough and throat irritation. However, honey should not be given to infants under one year old due to the risk of botulism. It's safe to use for babies over one year old.
3. **Tulsi (Holy Basil) Tea**: Tulsi leaves boiled in water and sweetened with a little honey can help ease cough and cold symptoms. This remedy is suitable for babies over one year old.
4. **Steam Inhalation**: Steam inhalation can help loosen mucus and ease congestion. Sit with your baby in a steamy bathroom for a few minutes or use a humidifier in their room.
5. **Nasal Saline Drops**: Saline drops can help clear nasal congestion and make it easier for your baby to breathe. Use a bulb syringe to gently suction out any mucus after applying the saline drops.
6. **Ajwain (Carom Seeds) Potli**: Warm ajwain seeds tied in a muslin cloth can be gently rubbed on your baby's chest and back to provide relief from cough and congestion.
7. **Eucalyptus Oil Massage**: Diluted eucalyptus oil can be gently massaged on your baby's chest and back to help ease congestion and promote better breathing. Make sure to dilute the oil properly and avoid direct contact with your baby's skin.
8. **Stay Hydrated**: Ensure your baby stays hydrated by offering plenty of breast milk or formula. For older babies, you can also offer warm water or clear fluids like soup broth.
Remember to monitor your baby closely and seek medical attention if their cough persists, worsens, or is accompanied by other concerning symptoms such as fever, difficulty breathing, or refusal to eat.
