POOJA KOTHARIMom of a 8 yr 5 m old boy7 months agoA. It's quite common for babies to have smelly gas, especially when they are on formula or breast milk. The smell can be caused by several factors:
Diet: If your baby is on formula, the ingredients can sometimes lead to stronger-smelling gas. If you're breastfeeding, certain foods you eat, such as broccoli, beans, or dairy, may cause smelly gas in your baby.
Immature Digestive System: At 3-4 months, babies' digestive systems are still developing, and they might not fully digest food, leading to gas and bloating. This can cause the gas to have a strong odor.
Swallowing Air: Babies often swallow air while feeding or crying, which can cause gas buildup and lead to smelly farts.
Gut Flora: The bacteria in your baby's gut are still developing, and sometimes this can result in stronger-smelling gas.
If your baby seems comfortable, is feeding well, and is gaining weight, this is usually normal. However, if you notice signs of discomfort, bloating, or changes in stool patterns, you might want to check with your pediatrician.
