A. Babies older than one year can be given jaggery. Jaggery powder is a good source of iron. One serving of jaggery powder contains 0.5mg of iron. Jaggery powder contains phosphorous and calcium in a large amount, which are minerals essential for the development of strong, healthy bones of the babies.

A. Jaggery should be introduced to a baby's diet only after the age of one year. However, this may vary based on the baby's health and your doctor's advice. Paediatricians recommend that babies should not be given any form of sugar until they turn one.It is advisable to feed the baby with jaggery after the age of one year. This will boost immunity and keep him/ her healthy, developing the taste for jaggery instead of sugar, which is not at all healthy.Babies can have jaggery as soon as they start eating solids, which is around the age of six months.
