POOJA KOTHARIMom of a 8 yr 5 m old boy6 months agoA. If your baby is coughing due to mucus and is unable to poop or vomit it out, it might be due to thick mucus stuck in the throat or chest. Here’s what you can do to give relief:
1. Help Loosen the Mucus
✅ Steam Inhalation – Sit in a steamy bathroom for 10-15 minutes to loosen mucus.
✅ Saline Nasal Drops – Helps clear nasal blockage; use 2 drops per nostril 3-4 times a day.
✅ Elevate Baby’s Head – While sleeping, keep baby’s head slightly elevated to ease breathing.
✅ Gentle Back Tapping – Place the baby on your lap and gently tap the back to loosen mucus.
2. Natural Remedies (For babies above 6 months)
🥄 Warm Ajwain (Carom Seeds) Water – Acts as a natural decongestant.
🥄 Tulsi & Honey (Only if above 1 year) – Helps relieve cough and mucus.
🥄 Ginger & Garlic Rub – Mix warm mustard oil with crushed garlic & ajwain, and rub on chest, back, and feet.
3. Ease Constipation (If baby is struggling to poop)
✔ Hydration – Offer warm water, breast milk, or diluted fruit juices (pear, prune, apple).
✔ Fiber-rich Foods (For 6+ months) – Papaya, prunes, pears, mashed banana, oats.
✔ Tummy Massage – Gently massage the belly in circular motions to ease stool movement.
✔ Leg Cycling Exercise – Helps stimulate bowel movement.
4. When to See a Doctor?
⚠ Cough lasts more than 10 days or is getting worse.
⚠ Wheezing or breathing difficulty.
⚠ High fever (above 102°F).
⚠ Baby is too weak, refusing feeds, or has chest retractions while breathing.
