A. For a two-year-old with scratches on the nose and cheeks, you can use gentle treatments to promote healing and prevent infection: ### Ointments: 1. **Antibiotic Ointment**: Apply a thin layer of antibiotic ointment like Neosporin or Polysporin to prevent infection. Use as directed by the product instructions or your pediatrician. 2. **Petroleum Jelly**: Applying a small amount of petroleum jelly (e.g., Vaseline) can keep the area moist and promote healing. ### Home Remedies: 1. **Clean the Wounds**: Gently clean the scratches with mild soap and water. Pat the area dry with a clean cloth. 2. **Avoid Picking**: Discourage your child from touching or picking at the scratches to prevent infection and scarring. 3. **Cover with a Bandage**: If the scratches are deep or in an area prone to getting dirty, consider covering them with a child-friendly adhesive bandage. 4. **Keep Nails Trimmed**: Keep your child’s nails trimmed to prevent further scratching and irritation. ### When to See a Doctor: - If the scratches become red, swollen, or start to ooze pus, as these may be signs of infection. - If your child develops a fever or the area does not seem to be healing. Always consult with your pediatrician if you have any concerns about the severity of the injury or the appropriate treatment.
