A. It's common for babies, especially around 7 months, to start rolling and finding comfortable sleep positions, including sleeping on their stomachs. However, it's important to ensure that your baby is safe while sleeping in this position. Here are some tips to manage this situation: 1. Safe Sleeping Practices Back to Sleep: Always lay your baby down on their back to sleep. This is the safest position to reduce the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). Avoid Pillows: Using pillows or other soft objects in the crib is not recommended for babies due to the risk of suffocation. Instead, ensure that the crib is free of soft bedding, including pillows, blankets, or stuffed animals. 2. Supervision & Changing Positions Repositioning: Since babies at this age often roll over, it's okay if your baby ends up on their stomach during the night after being placed on their back. Just be sure they can lift their head and turn it to the side to breathe properly. If you're concerned, try to check on your baby frequently, especially in the early months. 3. Tummy Time During the Day Encourage Tummy Time: Make sure your baby is getting enough tummy time while awake, as this helps develop neck and shoulder muscles and can improve overall body strength. This might reduce their tendency to sleep on their stomachs out of comfort. 4. Baby Sleep Positioners Avoid Sleep Positioners: While sleep positioners or wedges might seem like a good solution, they can also pose a safety risk by restricting movement and increasing the chance of suffocation. 5. Consider Sleep Training As your baby grows and becomes more mobile, they may have their own sleep preferences. If they roll onto their stomach but can lift their head easily and sleep safely, you can allow them to sleep in the position they prefer. If you have concerns about your baby’s sleep or safety, consider consulting your pediatrician for personalized advice.
