POOJA KOTHARIMom of a 8 yr 5 m old boy11 months agoA. At 6 months old, your baby is ready to start solid foods along with breast milk or formula. Here’s a suggested diet plan for your 6-month-old:
1. Breast Milk/Formula:
Continue breastfeeding or formula feeding as the primary source of nutrition. Offer it on demand.
2. Introduction of Solids:
Start with one meal a day and gradually increase to two meals by 7 months. Begin with small portions (1–2 tablespoons), then increase as your baby gets used to eating.
3. Foods to Start With:
Single-grain cereals (like rice or oatmeal cereal mixedwith breast milk/formula).
Vegetables: Steamed and mashed carrots, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, or peas.
Fruits: Mashed banana, apple puree, pear, or avocado.
lentils/Dal water: Thin, strained dal water (moong dal is a good option to start).
Ragi porridge: A nutritious food for babies that can be introduced.
4. Sample Meal Plan:
Morning: Breast milk or formula.
Mid-Morning: Mashed fruits (banana, apple puree).
Lunch: Cooked and pureed vegetables (like sweet potatoes or carrots).
Afternoon: Breast milk or formula.
Evening: Single-grain cereal (rice or oatmeal cereal).
Dinner: Breast milk or formula.
5. Tips:
Start with one new food at a time and wait 3-5 days before introducing another to monitor for allergies.
Avoid adding salt, sugar, honey, or cow’s milk until after one year.
Offer water in small sips once your baby is eating solids.
Gradually increase the variety and texture of the foods as your baby adjusts to eating solids. Make sure meals are soft and easy to swallow.
