Q.

My baby is 4 months old and she has low haemoglobin (9.6gm/dl) and doctor told me to give her iron drops. I just want to be sure that whether i give her the drops or not?

A. iron supplements need to be taken on an empty stomach. it can be taken anytime of the day but it is advisable to take either 1 hour before food or 1 hour after food. if taken with food the advantage of the medicine will be less. also it is not advisable to take iron supplements with any other medicine and a gap should be maintained if other medicines are going on(half hour gap is enough). you have to make the child drink water after taking iron supplements otherwise it can cause black staining of the tooth. x it will lead to black colour stool of the child which is totally normal. x

A. hello yes since the child haemoglobin level is low adopter as advised for the iron drop and it would be safe to be given for the child on you can as advised by your doctor which is safe and absolutely nothing to worry about
