Dr Vandan H KumarFather of a 7 yr 4 m old boy1 Year agoA. straining while passing stool as well as urine is normal.
the child is crying due to colic pain (due to gas) and not due to the reason that the child has not passed the stool.
infants may not pass stool for 10 days also and if the consistency of the stool is semi solid to solid it is not constipation. you can consider constipation only if it is hard and dry stools.
you can give anticolic medicines and meet your doctor.
burping / upright position for 20 minutes will help in decreasing the gas and future colic pain
It is very normal for small children that sometimes they will not pass stool for 10 days also and sometimes they will pass stool more than 7 to 8 times per day.
If the consistency of the stool is Semi solid to semi liquid do not worry about the frequency of the stool.
No medicines needs to be given in such a case but you have to meet the doctor only if the stool consistency is hard.
It is advisable to give only milk to the child and nothing else before completiond of 6 months of age.
intermittent crying of the child is due to colic pain and not due to constipation.
RashmiMom of a 11 yr old girl1 Year agoA. It’s totally normal for a child to be constipated in this age so need not worry about it if your child is taking feeding properly and the urine output is good for the child then there’s absolutely no problem with that gas is very common with kids in this age
