Dr Sameer awadhiyaGuardian of 2 children3 years agoA. Fever is a reaction of the body to different pyrogens released during any Infection. Usually temp more than 99 F is taken as fever . Mostly in children fever is because of viral infections like flu or RSV where the fever is there for 4-5 days but may persist even upto 2 weeks . Initially antipyretic like paracetamol is given in a dose of 15 mg / kg/ dose. Can be repeated after 4-6 hrs if needed .other medicine like mefenamic acid ibuprofen can also be given . Lutkewarm sponge bath can be given as home remedy to decrease fever. tAdequate fluid intake is also beneficial. Urine output monitoring is necessary to avoid dehydration .

Dr Vandan H KumarFather of a 7 yr 9 m old boy3 years agoA. The first medicine will always be paracetamol and it is given according to weight and power of paracetamol medicine you are having. Give liquids and easily digestible food and paracetamol should be given only after food. Keep the child in cool environment and avoid using woolen clothes when the child is having fever Armpit temperature of hundred or more is considered as feverd To body sponge to decrease the surface temperature and should be carried out for at least 20 minutes with normal temperature water. Higher zmedicines whether required or not will be told by the doctor.
