POOJA KOTHARIExpecting Mom due in 1 month2 months agoA. It’s common for the area where the umbilical cord fell off to remain slightly moist or even bleed a little, especially when touched or rubbed by a diaper. However, by 14 days, the stump area should be drying and healing. Here’s what you can do:
Keep it clean and dry: Gently clean the area with clean, lukewarm water once a day and pat it dry. Avoid using alcohol unless prescribed. Fold diapers away from the stump to allow air circulation and avoid rubbing. Avoid applying powders, ointments, or antiseptics unless specifically advised by a doctor. Do not cover it tightly – let it breathe.
However, if there is continuous bleeding, yellow discharge with foul smell, redness around the area, or the baby seems in pain or has a fever, it could indicate an infection (umbilical granuloma or omphalitis). In that case, see a pediatrician immediately for treatment.
