You have to just see the child should not be uncomfortable which may be because of factors like temperature of the room nasal blockage some discomfort like infantile colic or hunger.
In older children a proper discijpline is required so that the sleeping pattern can be scheduled according to a proper time try to avoid too much of screen time with sometimes can be the causative fnactor for disturbed sleep.

So start with the day time to make your child sleep next to you on the bed and over the period only the habit is going to change what happens is that parents give a certain habit to the child from the beginning itself and take it very comfortable with that so it is going to take some time for you to break the pattern
