Q.

my 4 year old has mucous since past 1 month..After trying all the cough medicibes my babies paediatrician has asked to nebulise him.I have been nebulising him for past 12 days . His coughing has definitely reduced but mucous is still there. His doc told me to give nebulisation until the mucous clears.I want to know for how many days is it safe to give nebulisation. And how long will it take mucous to go away completely. What could be the reason behind this stubborn mucous. Thanks

A. Cough along with Cold most of the time is a viral illness and it needs supportive care along with proper hydration. you can give steam inhalation which is very useful . cough needs to be treated with anti allergic and expectorant bronchodilators or antitussives yjmedicine which should be given only after a proper evaluation by the doctor accotrding to the type of cough. if fever is there paracetamol can be given to reduce the fever and the dose can be repeated after 6 hours again if required .
