Q.

my 3 months old baby has developed the habit of thumb sucking before sleeping, should I allow it or stop it?

A. Thumb sucking in infants is a very normal phenomenon and its called mouthing reflex and nothing to be worried about it just maintain proper hygiene and with time this thing will go . In the toddlers thumb sucking habit is also seen many a times which could be phycological chiause and feeling of insecurity or some stress . Just try to make the child comfortable and divert in some activities also spend good time with theu child . In extreme case withdrawal can be tried with some solution available which are bitter like femite lotion . It needs to be applied locally .

A. Teething could be one reason because of that also kids can start with this habit and of course you have to stop it if you do not put a stop to it or you do not keep taking the hand or thumb out of the mouth and it is going to become more prominent for the child to do it and that’s not good
