Q.

My 22 month old daughter had loose motion on 7 th August so we gave zinc as before but this time she did not get cured. And we admit her the next day. The doctor said she had diarrhea, loose motion will continue for about 7 days. She continued to have loose motion for 7 days. From the 8th day she got it back to normal and so on until the 3rd day she got better. But then she had loose motion again and this time she bled a little..The next day she got better but 3 days later she had loose motion again. There are 2 days in between and now she has it again today.

A. if loose motions are not improving then please go for stool examination (stool rm and stool culture). this will tell if loose motions are due to persistent infection or it is a part of delayed intestinal healing or is osmotic diarrhoea or due to lactose intolerance. can continue probiotics like sachet econorm / respule enterogermina (twice daily), ors. cannot give milk and dairy products, sugary diet, biscuits maida, icecream, packet foods, tea, coffee, soda, chocolate, nonveg diet, fried items (cerelac in small children). can give rice, dal, khichdi curd butter milk, apple banana, lime water coconut water, poha upma daliya. remain in contact with dr.d many times loose motions can take 15 days to recover due to intestinal damage. continue zinc dgiven by dr for healing of intestinal damage.
