Q.

my 11 month old baby fell off from the bed. she got swelling on her head. she cried a lot. but she is all fine now. active as usual. should I visit the paediatrician? is there a need?

A. hello doctor, thank you for the reply. it happened just now. half an hour back. she drank some milk and is peacefully sleeping now. I didn't apply any ice. and I already see that the swelling got reduced somewhat. she cried and then started behaving normal. I didn't see any convulsion. nor there was any vomiting. should I still be worried and consult a doctor?

A. Any Fall injury specially head injury needs to be assessed properly . In any such case certain symptoms needs to be checked like loss of consciousness reccurrent vomiting or any abnormal moment or convulsions . Such case needs immediate medical intervention as there could be some internal injury . Otherwise application of ice locally to reduce the swelling and pain can be done along with some analgesic like paracetamol. Recurrent fall injury for a child should be avoided as it can lead to some chronic manifestations occasgdionally . Also teeth injury should be rule out in any such case which is commonly associated and can be easily missed out most of the time .
